"I Survived!" Outdoor Skills Training with Owl Eyes Wilderness Survival

Thursday, June 2010:00 AM—12:00 PMHolbrook Town ForestHolbrook, MA, 02343

Please join us at the Holbrook Town Forest for an "I Survived!"-inspired event of learning outdoor safety and survival skills, taught by Tim Swanson of Owl Eyes Wilderness Survival (https://www.owleyeswilderness.com/). We'll meet at the Sodergren entrance to the forest.

One of the best ways we can enjoy the many parks and nature reservations that surround us is to be armed with some basic outdoor safety knowledge. Learning these skills at a young age is a great way to ensure that our children know how to stay aware and be prepared while out in nature. Knowing these skills also promotes confidence and resiliency in our children. They learn to trust themselves and how to work with others in the case of an emergency. Feeling confident and comfortable in their environmental awareness gives them a deeper love and respect for nature too.

We’ll Learn:

  • Essentials to pack
  • How to build a shelter
  • Fire safety
  • Basic first aid
  • How to regulate core temperatures
  • Basic plant identification (we’ll be on the lookout for poison ivy!)
  • How to signal for rescue
  • Knife safety

This event is open to children age 8+ and their caregivers. Because sharp objects may be used we want to stress that it is up to the discretion of the caregiver if their child is mature enough to participate.

Please note that while caregivers do not need to participate they are REQUIRED to attend. ALL participants will need to fill out a release of liability waiver at the beginning of class.

REMEMBER TO BRING:

- Footwear that can get muddy

- Water

- Bug spray and sunscreen

If you're able to, we encourage you to bring a Basic Kit, that includes a shoulder bag, work or gardening gloves, and a craftsman knife.

NOTE: This class will be held RAIN OR SHINE.

Registration for this event has now closed.
