Where Do You Stand?

A Voices & Votes Exhibit Game Night

Join us for an engaging evening of playful discovery and civic reflection as part of the Voices & Votes: Democracy in America experience. Step into a space where history and hands-on fun meet: an informal game-night inspired by the exhibition’s interactive learning components.

What to expect:

Get moving and dive into the “Where Do You Stand?” challenge: respond in real time to provocative democratic questions like “Should voting be mandatory?” or “Would you join a protest even if most people you know disagreed with you?” and see how your thoughts compare with others.

Gather with friends (or make new ones!) for bracket-style “Head-to-Head” games and discussion prompts drawn from the exhibition’s companion American Experience Traveling Trunk Activities.

Explore the broader themes of the Voices & Votes exhibit — the origins of American democracy, the fight for voting rights, the mechanics of participation beyond the ballot — all in a lively, welcoming setting.

Enjoy light refreshments, conversation, and the chance to reflect on your role as a citizen in today’s world.

Who should come:

Whether you’re a student, lifelong learner, community member, or someone simply curious about democracy and society, this evening is for you. No prior knowledge required—just bring your curiosity and willingness to engage.

Format: Casual, interactive stations; come alone or in groups; participants will rotate through several mini-games and group discussions.

Why it matters: The games are designed not just for fun, but to prompt thought and dialogue: “Who gets to vote? What does it mean to have a voice? How do we act in a democracy?”

Come ready to ask questions, make some quick decisions, see where you stand—and see where your fellow participants stand. We’ll laugh, we’ll think, we’ll converse—and hopefully walk away with more insight into the rights and responsibilities we share in a democratic society.
