The Buttonwood Park Zoo, established in 1894, is the 12th oldest zoo in the United States. Located on seven acres in New Bedford, MA, the zoo features over 240 species, most notably Asian elephants, red pandas, bison, cougars, black bears, eagles, seals, otters, South American primates and numerous waterfowl species. The Zoo is fully accessible to the disabled, and a limited number of wheelchairs are available on a first-come, first-serve basis at the front entrance. There is a gift store and a café on the premises.

Pass Benefits

Each pass admits 4 people free.

Regular Admission Adults $10.00 Children 3-12 $6.00

Not valid on Mondays, Saturdays, major holidays, special event days, or during February and April vacation weeks.

Pass must be picked up from and returned to the library. Passes can be checked out a day prior to the registration if avaliable. Passes must be returned either the date of the reservation, or by 9:30am the following day.

Any passes reserved for Sunday must be picked up on Saturday, and returned to the library by 9:30am on Tuesday.

All passes must be returned either at the front desk or in the AV bookdrop slot inside the case it was checked out in.

Founded in 1872, the 40-acre zoo is one of the nation’s oldest. It’s home to over 100 species of rare and interesting animals from all over the world presented in naturalistic settings, including many endangered species. Themed programs and events are offered throughout the year, some of them focused on hands-on conservation. Nearby, within the park, is an operational Victorian-style carousel.

Passes reserved for Monday must be picked up on the preceding Saturday only.

Zoo New England operates Franklin Park Zoo, a 72-acre site nestled in Boston’s historic Franklin Park, and the Stone Zoo, located on a 26-acre site near Spot Pond reservoir in Stoneham, MA. In addition to animals, both zoos are engaged in wildlife and conservation programs, research, and education.
